Hunting Dogs

My husband and oldest love hog hunting and coon hunting. We have a fancy kennel full of dogs to prove it. We have the expensive equipment that goes along with having hunting dogs. The head lamp hunting lights, the tracking collars and receivers, the protective vests and collars, etc. They have a trailer too now. (that I purchased recently and pulled home.) My husband made for a dog/hog hauler to pull behind the 4wheeler to take on hog hunts.

Unfortunately, on Christmas Eve, we had to put, our less than a year old, 4wheeler in the shop. They have been hog hunting on horseback the last couple of days. My husband, oldest, and a friend left an hour ago to hunt. Them, three horses, a whole variety of dogs, two trucks, two trailers are probably unloading and hitting the brush by now.

Before they left, my oldest was leading two of our dogs, from the kennel to the truck. The crazy things saw my chickens and pulled away from him. (***sigh***) He expertly caught a hen and began trying to have a chicken snack before leaving. Momma was not happy with the aggravating dog. This is why the hunting dogs live in the fancy kennel, away from my sweet chickens. Thankfully, he only got one. ๐Ÿ˜ข

Yesterday’s hunt went well for them. Other than walking/riding up and down steep hills. The dogs all worked well. They were able able to catch a wild hog. Hopefully, they’ll catch some more today. Here’s a picture of yesterday’s hunt.

Do any of you have hunting dogs? We have one raccoon hunting dog, a handful of hog hunting ones, and two squirrel dogs that belong to my son’s Ag teacher. He sent them home with us over the holiday to be hunted. My son and nephew have been able to go squirrel hunting three times so far.

Hope all of you have a Happy New Year! Take care God bless.

Christmas Pets

Hello, Strangers! I didn’t fall off the face of the Earth. I’ve been completely lazy since we’ve been out for Christmas break. Well, as lazy as a person can be with a husband, two boys, and a farm! I hope all of you had a blessed Christmas. We certainly did! I love visiting and eating with our family. Reading the Christmas story is always a favorite tradition at Christmas time as well.

We debated what kind of pet to get my youngest for Christmas. (You know because, kids on a farm don’t have enough! Haha!) We talked about several options. Fish: can’t snuggle. Hamsters: hubby concerned they’d be too smelly. Cat: me yes/hubby said no. Puppy: finally something we both agreed on. So…..we got…..drumroll, please…..TWO puppies. One for each of our boys. I wanted something to snuggle and, I definitely got my wish. They love attention! They are sweet and good guard pups. They already warn us if anyone pulls in. They are bred to be hunting dogs. (Hubby’s idea of course.) They are half dogo & half red tick pups. Look up dogos! Excellent guard dogs and great for hog hunting. ๐Ÿ˜ Here are a few pics. (Excuse the mess in my house, Christmas Day was messy. Lol)

They named them themselves. The female belongs to my youngest. Her name is Blue Dots. (I call her Dot.) The male pup is my oldest’s. His name is Spec.

I better go. I’m headed outside to feed everything, water and probably bust ice.

Have a great weekend! Happy New Year!

Hermit Time

I was talking to a fellow blogger earlier, and we both agreed that we are hermit-like. I love my family, noisy farm animals, cozy pajamas, a lit Christmas tree, coffee, and Christmas movies. I love being home so much, if it wasn’t for my boys needing school and for going to Church, I’d stay home most of the time. ๐Ÿ˜œ

think I'm completely insane because, you may not be an easily embarrassed introvert like me. That's ok, I may be just a tiny bit crazy. I'm completely alright with that! God made me to be a shy person. He loves me just the way I am.

In my defense, I don't hide in my home 7 days a week. I lead Boy Scouts on Thursday evenings. I teach Children's Church every other week. I try to smile at strangers in Walmart. (I really ought to get extra points for kindness in a Walmart store!) But, this week and next, I'm going to 100% enjoy my life as an introvert on Christmas break.

I hope you enjoy some down time during the Holidays as well. Let's spend time playing games with our children. Take time to snuggle and read the Christmas story (Luke 2), or your favorite Christmas books. Watch some Christmas movies with popcorn and hot chocolate with your babies. Take a step back from all the over-advertised Christmas commercialism. Let's get back to the true meaning of Christmas. Jesus is the reason we should celebrate. Family is so important. Don't get caught up in the cost of presents that you forget, Jesus. Be a hermit. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas. God bless you all.

Christmas Secrets

Are you like me and have gifts and stocking stuffers stashed all through your walk in closet? Or some other hiding place through out your home? I sent my poor hubby (after working 10 hours) to the farm with my boys last night. I needed to unload my locked truck of gifts and wrap them, and everything else in my hiding places. I finished the last of their gifts and my niece and nephew’s, just as they pulled into the driveway.

Only one Christmas secret is still an issue. I ordered a deer stand that my son asked for online. Do you know the little box during checkout that says: “Is this a gift?” I checked that box upon checkout. Apparently, whomever shipped it didn’t pay attention. ๐Ÿ™„ My son called out to me yesterday, “Mom, UPS is here! It’s a big box like maybe my deer stand?” I threatened his life, if he came outside. (Which was good since the company had the stand picture plastered down the side on the box! ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ) I told Mr. UPS Man to prop it against the house and I’d get it in a minute. I dashed back inside for my boots. Then, I rushed outside to cram the 6 foot box into my truck. It fit…..barely. Did I mention, it was extremely HEAVY?!?!

My current status: the giant, labeled stand is still hiding in the backseat of my truck. The same truck, I’ll probably need to drive to Church this evening. My muscular husband is at work. Both my boys are at home with me. I do have a huge camper that I could drag it inside to wrap. I will probably try this but, my back is still hurting from wrestling it yesterday. I know when I go outside, they will follow me. The adventures of a sneaky Mom at Christmas.

A Super Christmas

Our Church Christmas program was this evening. It has been so much work but, it definitely paid off. The kids and youth were so adorable and amazing! The adults were awesome. God truly had his hand upon the program. It all flowed so well. Some of our practices were interesting, for lack of a better word. ๐Ÿ˜‚ They all pulled it off fabulously! Praising God for it, and for all the help I had with it.

The program was about a group of Super Heroes who heard about a new hero named, Jesus. They were afraid Jesus was there to take their jobs and were trying to track Him down. It was comical modern with the traditional Nativity mixed in. I found it online and everyone seemed to love it. The kids were very excited about the Superhero theme. Oh! I forgot to mention that my rotten son decided to stay by his daddy. He was supposed to join the angels during the Nativity and singing! I noticed but, was too busy to chase him down. Leave it to my kid to skip out! The silly angel did mysteriously show up to take pictures at the end. ๐Ÿคทโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ™„โ˜บ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

Here’s my naughty angel. At least he looks angelic. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m exhausted and thankful that we are on Christmas break. I’ve got to catch up on things around here and get busy shopping! But first, I’m hoping to sleep in a little tomorrow. โ˜บ๏ธ

Christmas Joy

It’s almost CHRISTmas! I still have so much to do. I do want to make sure my family doesn’t get so caught up in preparations, that we forget the reason we celebrate. Jesus. He’s blessed us so much. We can never praise Him enough.

My youngest is very excited about being out for CHRISTmas break. Here he is wearing his new hat, and walking into the High School to pick up his brother.

He’s been wanting to build a Gingerbread house. I found an adorable Nativity Gingerbread set at our local Walmart. He’s begging me to let him build it. I’m thinking Monday… I found a cute Christmas Program for our Church kids (and a few amazing adult volunteers) to present. They will preform it Sunday night. I’m in “don’t forget anything ” “scared stiff” mode until it’s over. โ˜บ๏ธ My youngest and I are fighting a sinus infection this weekend. I’m praying the antibiotics kick in quickly, before we sing in the Program on Sunday.

What are your big plans for CHRISTmas? Do you have traditions that your family does each year? For instance, my family has always read the Christmas Story (Luke 2) before we open gifts. When I had kids, I also choose to leave at least one gift unwrapped, for when my boys wake up Christmas morning. I have several Nativity sets that I decorate with. One of them is always under our tree. ๐ŸŽ„

Christmas is my second favorite Holiday. (Thanksgiving being my favorite!) It just all makes me feel so happy and blessed! The trees, my ornaments that hold treasured memories, the beautiful lights and Nativity sets, and complete strangers helping others. I could go on and on but, I tend to live caught up in a Christmas fairy tale of happiness. (Or so my hubby teases me: too many Lifetime Christmas movies! Haha!)

I hope all of you have a very Merry Christmas! I pray God blesses all of you, comforts you who are missing loved ones, and provision for those struggling.

Out Of The Mouth of Babes

I’ve been subbing and working as a Break Person in a preschool since mid-October. I’m loving it! I wanted to share something one of them said yesterday. We were eating our lunch. I was across the room eating and I see/hear a child look into his friend’s eyes and say: “My God and Jesus is the Biggest God.” This was spoken with firmness and conviction.

From across the room I whisper to myself, Yes, He is.” ๐Ÿ˜โค๏ธ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ Let’s keep raising our babies to love God. Even when we aren’t around, it’s sticking, folks. Be a seed planter.

Welcome Home

I drove down my long driveway and watched my crazy dog bark at the pony, today. She seems to think she’s helping me to bark at her, until I stop my truck. I’m still trying to figure her out at two years old. Jingle Bells (bet you can’t guess what month she was born!), use to chase my chickens when I pulled up. She learned that I didn’t approve, and moved on to torturing my son’s ancient pony. No worries, Buttercup, ignores her and continues eating. Every day, same routine.

Don’t let her sweet face fool you. Today, I also came home to see she’d gotten a package off my porch, and carried it out in the yard. **sigh** This was a first. I’m not sure why, other than it was light and she could carry it. For some reason, my mailman puts packages right at the top on the stairs, where Jingle likes to hang out. Thankfully, it wasn’t damaged. It just had tiny tooth holes in the box.

I also put my truck in park and sat in my truck a minute texting Boy Scout parents. While sitting there, two chickens joined me. I think they were telling me, they were ready to eat.

I believe winter is finally with us. It’s been unseasonably warm. Wednesday we saw a big drop in temperatures. Today, it was a high of only 39. It was around 25 degrees when we headed out this morning. I bundled up and headed out to feed. The scarf and Ear wrap was made by my momma. I believe they were a gift from last Christmas.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

God bless.

Christmas Prep

Things have been so busy lately! This time of year, it seems that there’s never enough time to accomplish everything I’d like. Farm life is going busy as always. I have two roosters who are fighting over who’s boss. (Not sure why they just decided to suddenly fuss but, alrighty then.) My gray hen hatched three chicks last week. They are so precious. All my other chicks are getting so big.

The ducks are always busy making mud or flying around our land. It amazes me that they stay on our property. It’s like they know the exact boundaries to keep!

The town twelve miles from us has beautiful Christmas lights. We went Saturday evening to look at them and take pictures with friends. We enjoyed watching the carriage rides, ice skating, and drinking Hot chocolate.

I finally got my tree up and halfway decorated! Yay me! I’m hopeful to finish it this evening. I finally remembered to play hide and go seek with our elf too. We don’t tell our kids there’s magic in it or that Santa brings their gifts but, we enjoy having fun.

I hope you are all having a great week. Take care.
